The Line Up.

Over the last few weeks, a few friends and i decided it was about time we did something fun. (work wise i mean) Zoe  Lines, a very talented graphic designer was feeling frustrated at the lack of creative freedom she gets at work. While Lynne Datson was struggling to find that step into going professional as an illustrator/designer. I was all of the above. So we sat and ate cake (of course) and brainstormed. What we came up with is---- The Line Up.

We are now a creative collective, searching for new design opportunities, best of all i get to work with two of my best friends! We all have very different visual languages, but, i feel that this lends itself well to us having a broader spectrum of work to show clients.

currently we are looking for freelance work. We are not fussy, and treat any brief with fun and sensitivity.

some more flowery goodness.

I really enjoyed creating these images. They are pretty and gentle. I would love them to be printed in a dress.

A few of my illustrations from my first Freelance Gig.

I was asked to do some illustrations for a jewellery range. With the idea that they will be used on the packaging. I had to incorporate a bow and use turquoise/blue in the illustration. This is what i came up with...

Illuzine

So this week i am collecting all the bits and pieces people have done so far. The brief for the Zine has changed slightly in order to give all you illustrators a bit more freedom. You can now choose between LIFE / NATURE / PLASTIC. I am still accepting work until sunday. I hope this helps a bit.

I am really enjoying the process. I will also be uploading some bits of work soon. so you can all have a look at what people have done.

Illuzine continued.....

hi, all you creative lot. A few months ago i came up with an idea for a zine, where other creatives could submit a piece of work (that fits the guidelines)  for the zine. it has to be illustrative. But as all you illustrators know that is pretty broad. it could be interesting type etc. no photos please unless its just part of the main image. e.g collage. the theme is LIFE. interpret this in your own way, and come up with something gorgeous. you wont be paid for this gig, initially.......but it is a great way to get your work noticed. The zine is A5 size, you may choose two colours if you wish (this includes black) or just stick to black and white. You can have a double page spread (A4) but please consider the crease in the middle of the page. all files must be 300dpi. If you are interested or would like some more info.......  Either tweet me (michelle pegrume), or you can email me on shelly_sa@msn.com .
look forward to seeing some lovely stuff.

Blast from the past.....

Today is a day to organise (Chuck out) some of my portfolio. I haven't had a good clean out in ages. i think this is the best way to move forward with your work. To freshen up your visual language. To give you confidence to try something new! But i came across a self promotional item i did in my final year at Uni. A pack of playing cards....( i know, i know....not the most original idea). Coming across these cards has inspired me to just get the paints out again and go for it. I loved the process of making these cards. i love the colours, and they say a lot about me as a creative. I hope you enjoy.... ( for some reason the Spades wont upload, hopefully have them up here soon).

Flower power.

So, as you may have noticed i have become slightly obsessed with origami. i have found that you can incorporate these 3D beauties into your own 2D work. this is a drawing i had done during my lunch break at work. now its been transformed into something else.

this little home.....

i have been busy lately making some little cards. i used a stencil to screen print the initial  shapes. i then added other details using carbon paper and pen. i had fun making these and i am looking forward to giving them away.

60 minutes.

Work at the moment is very dull. So at any opportunity to explore or feel the sun on my face i jump at it! Today i felt like having a browse on YCN (Young Creative Network) online. They always have really interesting work on there. The Angency section is pretty cool as all you have to do is send them your work by email and they will make a profile of your work. Great way to get your work spotted! This Brightened my day!!! There were so many talented people on there but here are a couple that stood out for me..........BRYONY BIRKBECK http://agency.ycnonline.com/people/portfolio/bryony-birkbeck/  The only way to describe her work is as girly and intricate. Just beautiful 3D collage.

Another is Christina Hagerfor's work. She has an amazing eye for colour. Her work is playful and sophisticated in use of colour and texture. Look out for the image with the hot air balloon in the background. Think it is my favourite image of the day. she is also on YCN

I just thought i would share something that really got my creative juices flowing.

so what's been happening?

Well I haven't been on here for so long. You know what it's like........ Full time job, temping for a pensions company. You get sucked into the monotonous everyday of office life. That has to change today! (before i go insane) My hands feel restless........ just typing and answering phones is not fulfilling their potential. So today at 17:00 i clocked off. I came home and sat in front of my desk. Just staring for what felt like forever. So intimidated by this blank page in front of me. I felt like shouting at it, "WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!", "I'LL DRAW ALL OVER YOU!!!", then felt slightly silly as these thoughts were running through my mind. HA HA how can i draw all over you? I have no idea where to start. So i started flicking through the fashion bible that is VOGUE. The Images always inspire me. Those editorial Poses the models strike. All angle and bone. The shadows. The beautiful clothes. THE SHOES!!!! so before i know it i have my water colours out and I'm dashing colour onto the page. already i feel this huge weight lifted. You're not so white anymore, are you?!
I know i must sound mad, but the last few weeks of phones ringing and staring at a screen all day have almost sent me potty.

So today is the start! the start of me finding a career doing something i LOVE!
